While many people argue that data centers should be banned, many believe they are needed as well. Forbes Technology Council Member, Phillip Marangella, wrote in the article, “AI Amplifies Data Centers’ Impact – Let’s Make Sure it’s for Good,” about all of the positive impacts AI data centers can have on the community, environment, and economy. Marangella writes, “Data centers directly and indirectly supported 4.7 million jobs and contributed $727 billion to GDP in 2023.” GDP is the Gross Domestic Production and is mostly used in business because it is basically the total money value of a product in production. The amount of jobs that do open up during the construction and set up of the centers does help locals.
